Refractive Lens Exhange (RLE)

Not a candidate of LASIK/PRK…

For individuals with severe near-sightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), or astigmatism who are not candidates for corneal based refractive surgery (LASIK/PRK) – Refractive Lens Exhange (RLE) is an effective alternative.

RLE is generally recommended in individuals 45 years of age and older. Similar to cataract surgery, one's natural lens is removed from the eye and it is replaced with an intraocular lens that corrects for the refractive error of the eye (hyperopia, myopia, or astigmatism).

The Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) takes approximately 15-20 minutes, and is performed in the surgical suite, at Midwest Eye Care Institute. Similar to cataract surgery, Dr. Conlon will place the implant into the eye through a small incision, which generally does not require stitches to close.

Dr. Conlon has performed thousands of lens exchanges, primarily in individuals with cataracts, however an increasing number of cases are now being performed individuals who are not candidates for corneal based laser surgery (PRK/LASIK).
